You know I love to dive deep into the smallest details, especially when they involve 1\. horror and 2\. literature. So I just had to know the significance of that Bible verse held up by the drifter in Jordan Peele’s movie [Us](https://amzn.to/2Q0QGf7) as soon as I made it home from the theater: Jeremiah 11:11

Here’s the King James Version:

> Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
> Source: [BibleGateway](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah+11%3A11&version=KJV) ([comparisons to other Bible versions](https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/Jeremiah%2011:11))

And the NRSVue:

> Therefore, thus says the Lord, assuredly I am going to bring disaster upon them that they cannot escape; though they cry out to me, I will not listen to them.
